Northport Receives Highest Award At APBS

Northport (Malaysia) Bhd (“Northport”), a member of MMC Group, was announced as the recipient of the Anugerah Perdana Penarafan Bintang Sasaran Penting (APBSP) 2023 under the Key Point ll category, during the appreciation award ceremony event held at the Leo Moggie Convention Centre, TNB Platinum Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur on 16th November 2023. The Chief Executive Officer of Northport, Dato’ Azman Shah Mohd Yusof, was present to receive the award on behalf of the company. The award was presented by Yang Berhormat Senator Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution bin Ismail, Minister of Home Affairs.

“Over the years, we have made continuous improvement through our “Reinventing Northport” initiative to become a Safer, Greener, Smarter, Better port. Through this initiative, we have strengthened our procedures and measures, reaffirming our commitment to providing a secure and conducive working environment. Our goal is to nurture a culture of sustainable safety and security management for the overall well-being of our employees and port users,” said Dato’ Azman.

The objective of the APBSP award event is to assess and acknowledge the most exemplary protective security governance systems within Malaysia’s critical infrastructure installations. Northport was declared as a Protected Area and Protected Place under the Protected Areas and Protected Places Act 1959 (Act 298) by the Malaysian Government.

On 19 April 2023, the Key Point Auditing Team, which includes representatives from the Malaysia Office of the Chief Government Security Officer (“CGSO”), together with the Royal Malaysian Police, the Malaysian Armed Forces, the Malaysian National Security Council, and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, conducted the APBSP 2023 assessment of Northport.

Following the evaluation by the Key Point Auditing Team, Northport achieved the highest overall score, earning the prestigious Anugerah Perdana in the Key Point ll category.

“The Anugerah Perdana, awarded to Northport in APBSP 2023, is a testament to the effective governance, commitment, and accountability of TeamNorthport. It reflects our dedication to achieving excellence in security management and fostering a culture of safety and security among all Northport employees,” said Dato’ Azman.

In recent years, Northport has been recognized with awards and accolades from both local and international organizations for its outstanding safety and health initiatives.

In May 2022, Northport was announced as the winner of the International Association of Ports and Harbors (“IAPH”) 2022 Sustainability Award under the Health Safety and Security category during the IAPH World Ports Conference 2022 held in Vancouver, Canada. Northport defeated two other finalists, Port of Montreal and Port of Amsterdam, in this category. The recognition was awarded to Northport in acknowledgment of its outstanding project, titled “Journey towards HSE Excellence.” Northport made history as the first Malaysian port to receive the prestigious IAPH Sustainability Award.

In November 2022, Northport made a clean sweep of awards at the National Occupational Safety and Health Awards 2020/2021. The Company took home three awards namely the CEO of the Year (Private Sector), Business Services and Mentor-Mentee (Mentor) awards. Organized by the National Council of Occupational Safety and Health (“NCOSH”), this event stands as one of Malaysia’s most prestigious award events, honoring organizations and individuals for their outstanding performance in occupational safety and health.

In May this year, Northport was announced as one of the recipients of the British Safety Council’s 2023 International Safety Awards (Merit) during the award presentation ceremony held in London. The prestigious award recognizes and celebrates organizations from around the world which have shown a true commitment and dedication to keeping their workers and workplaces healthy and safe.
